PRESS RELEASE: Campus Shuttle Press Release
Hello UFV Students!
As the UFV community transitions back into in-person classes for the Fall 2021 semester, we are happy to announce that we are in the process of securing a brand-new temporary campus shuttle agreement beginning in September. The information detailed below is to assist students in making an informed decision for their classes and transit options as we work to finalize the details.
The new intercampus-shuttle service will transport students between the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses (with no shuttle service from Langley). There will be two buses making trips back and forth from the Chilliwack Campus to the Abbotsford Campus. Shuttle runs will commence at approximately 8:00 AM and conclude with the last bus picking up from each campus at 5:40 PM, with buses running each hour. A finalized schedule with exact times of each shuttle run will be provided shortly once all contracts are finalized.
All UFV students who are members of the Student Union Society, with the exception of some groups, or those individuals who qualify for opting out due to location of residence or have 100% online classes, will be charged the standard shuttle fee of $27.23.
As we begin to fully transition back to in-person classes, we will be securing a permanent shuttle contract and hope to increase the number of buses and frequency over time. We understand this may not fulfil everyone's transport requirements but we will review ridership on a weekly basis and will make adjustments as required. In Winter 2020 we ran a referendum asking students to vote for an increase in the shuttle fee to continue to run at its previous capacity. This, however, did not pass and therefore has resulted in a reduced service.
We are also working to ensure that the service is accessible to all students and will follow up with more details regarding wheelchair accessible shuttle runs. We welcome your feedback as we work to develop a sustainable long-term transportation solution. In the near future, we will publish the schedule and host a Q&A session to answer any questions that you may have.
