What does the Upass give Students?

The UPass Program gives UFV students affordable access to public transportation, recreation facilities, and wellness opportunities. It’s designed to make campus life easier, healthier, and more connected.

  • Our partnership with BC Transit allows students free access to most Central Fraser Valley (Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission) transit routes (excluding 66 FVX).

    BC Transit offers a grace period for the bus systems in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission. During these periods, students will be able to access bussing as long as they have a current UFV Campus Card (no U-Pass/Umo required).

    • Fall: September 1st-15th

    • Winter: January 1st-15th

    • Summer: May 1st-15th

    *UFV SUS has a partnership with BC Transit and therefore does not have authority over BC Transit to regulate its schedules**

  • U-Pass holders have access to recreation and fitness facilities in Abbotsford, including the use of the pool, rinks, and weight rooms at:

    • Abbotsford Recreation Centre

    • Matsqui Recreation Centre

    • Mission Leisure Centre

How to Get your UPass




  • Step 1:

    Download the Umo Mobility app from the Apple App or Google Play Store.

    Step 2:

    Create a Umo account.
    Tip: We recommend using your student email to sign up.

    Step 3:

    Inside the Umo app, select "REDEEM BENEFIT" from the top menu, Tap "CHANGE AGENCY," and select "CFV-CENTRAL FRASER VALLEY TRANSIT."

    Step 4:

    Now, enter your U-Pass Benefit Code.
    Tip: Your unique "U-Pass Benefit code" can be found in your MyUFV portal.

    Step 5:

    You're all set! You can now access your U-Pass benefits using the "WALLET" section in your Umo app.

    ⓘYour "U-Pass Benefit Code" remains valid for the duration of one semester. At the start of each new semester, you will receive a fresh "U-Pass Benefit Code".

  • We’re all about accessibility. If you encounter any challenges accessing the Umo App, please submit a request for a physical Umo card.

    Please note:

    • If you decide to use the physical Umo card, you will no longer be able to access U-Pass benefits via the Umo App.

    • You can activate your U-Pass using the Umo app or card only if you are a UFV student and SUS member currently enrolled in a course for the semester.

How to access your Upass Benefits

BC Transit Access

  • To Opt-out of the U-Pass, You must meet at least one of the requirements below.

    1. Online: Only enrolled in distance education courses. This may involve online only courses, co-op programs, international exchanges or other applicable programs.

    2. Disability: Have a documented disability verified by UFV and, as a result, are unable to use regular public transportation or handyDART services..

    3. Government Bus Pass: You have a BC Bus Pass issued by the BC Government, confirmed by UFVSUS.

  • Due to the legally binding contractual agreement between BC Transit and UFVSUS, for a course to be considered fully online (and for students to be eligible to opt-out of the U-Pass fees), it must be listed on the UFV timetable with one of the following instructional methods:

    • “Instructional Method - Online only. No meeting times.”

    • “Instructional Method - Online only. Online with scheduled meeting times.”

    Although professors are able to adjust their course formats as they see fit (online, hybrid, etc.) if the instructional method listed on the UFV timetable is not “online only” we cannot grant an opt-out.

    We understand this may be frustrating, however, because of our legal obligation, in order to meet this exemption requirement for fully online status the criteria above must be met.

    **Please note that UFV's Hyflex instructional method allows the opportunity for in-person learning; thus, for the purpose of U-Pass opt-outs, courses labeled as Hyflex cannot be accepted as "online-only." If you are registered in a course labeled as Hyflex, but all opportunities for in-person learning have been suspended, please speak with your Professor about having the instructional method formally updated.n

Summer ‘26

OPT-IN PERIOD:
April 20, 2026 to May 19, 2026

Important: Students approved to opt into the Summer 2026 U-Pass Opt-In program will be assessed a total Summer Opt-In fee of $49.26, including a $5 SUS Fee.

  • To Opt-in of the U-Pass program, you must meet all of the requirements below.

    1. Winter 2026 Enrollment: Registered in at least one course during the Winter 2026 term. This includes both online and in-person courses.

    2. SUS Fees: All applicable SUS member fees for the Winter 2026 term must have been paid. Please check your Student Account Summary to review your fees payments or contact UFV Office of the Registrar.

    3. SUS U-Pass Fee: The U-Pass fee for the Winter 2026 term must have been paid

    How to check if you were assesed SUS Fees for Winter 2026.

    1. Log in to your MyUFV account.

    2. Under “Student Billing & Account” select “View your account summary”

    3. Select Winter 2026 term

    4. Look for SUS Membership fees and SUS U-Pass fees.

    5. Or reach out to UFV Office of the Registrar for your fee’s history.

    Please note: Students must pay the U-Pass opt-in fee through the UFV Office of the Registrar before their UMO code can be activated. The UMO activation code will only be issued once payment has been processed and eligibility has been confirmed.

    Note:
    These fees will only be assessed if the student is not enrolled in courses and is not already being charged student fees for the Summer 2026 term.

🔔Heads up!

The opt-in application may take up to a week to process. In the meantime, students can use BC Transit without a U-pass during the grace period (May 1 - May 15).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your unique U-Pass Benefit Code will be available in your MyUFV account once you've been assessed and paid the U-Pass fees.

    Follow these steps to redeem your code:

    1. Log in to your MyUFV account.

    2. In the search bar, type "U-Pass."

    3. If you're eligible, you should see an option on the U-Pass card to "Obtain a New Code."

  • Your "U-Pass Benefit Code" remains valid for the duration of one semester. At the start of each new semester, you will receive a fresh "U-Pass Benefit Code".

    To obtain your U-Pass for the current semester, simply input the new benefit code into the Umo App. This ensures continued access to transportation services throughout your academic term.

  • We’re all about accessibility. If you encounter any challenges accessing the Umo App. You can submit a request for a Physical Umo card.

  • The Umo app may be unavailable on the Google Play Store in your region if your Google account or phone settings are not set to Canada.

    To change your region:

    1. Sign in to your Google account on https://pay.google.com/

    2. Navigate to settings from the menu options.

    3. Create a new profile with “Canada” as the country.

    4. Enter personal details and add a method of payment.

    5. Save the changes.

    Also, adjust the region in your phone settings to Canada.

    Once the region is set to Canada in both your Google Pay account and phone, return to the Google Play Store; the Umo app should now be accessible.

  • The Umo app may be unavailable on the Apple App Store in your region if your Apple ID or phone settings are not set to Canada.

    "Before you update your location, you must spend your store credit, cancel your subscriptions, and get a payment method for your new country or region."

    When the region is set to Canada, the Umo app should show up in the Apple App Store.

  • Umo App device transfers are intended for situations where your device is lost, damaged, or replaced. When transferring your account to a new device, ensure it is the device you plan to use going forward.

    Accounts that exceed the monthly device transfer limit will be considered in breach of the BC Transit Terms and Conditions for the use of Umo. If this occurs, your account—and any passes on it—will be permanently removed. Have questions regarding your account, please contact the Umo Call Centre toll free at 877-380-8181

  • If you've already set up a Umo account, follow these steps:

    1. Contact the BC Transit Call Center to request freezing your lost card.

    2. Head to the SUS office to obtain a replacement card. Don't orget to bring your UFV student ID!

    3. Call the BC Transit Call Center again to arrange the transfer of funds from your lost card to the new one. They'll only need the number on the back of your new card.

  • All UFV Students and SUS Members enrolled in a course during the current semester including Part-time and Full-time students are eligible.

    Non eligible: Students who are registered but not currently taking classes. Some specific programs administered by the Faculty of Access and Continuing Education and / or the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies where registrants pay tuition only.

  • All students taking classes in a semester will be automatically assessed the U-PASS fee granting them access to the program.

    UFV will assess a fee of $42.62 to your student account.

  • The U-Pass program enables students to access transportation and education while increasing student wellness by gaining them free admittance into recreation facilities and providing discounts/perks that help the wallet!

  • On a BC Transit Bus

    Open your Umo app and present your dynamic QR code to the onboard scanner while boarding the bus.

    The QR code can be found in the “Wallet” section of your Umo account.

    At the Recreation Centres (ARC, MRC, MLC)

    Step 1: Go to the front desk of the recreation centre and present your digital upass in the UMO app.

    Step 2: Present your valid UFV Student ID card and show your upass benefit code and student name from your MyUFV account for verification.

    Step 3: Recreation centre staff will create a recreation centre membership pass for you to access the facilities.

    If you have a physical UMO card, ensure your UFV Student Card also has a valid U-Pass sticker on the back.

    Step 4: They will create a recreation centre card for you to access the facilities.

    Note: Your membership pass will be valid for the same period as your U-Pass.

    In the UFV Chilliwack Fitness Centre:

    Step 1 : Visit the UFV Campus Recreation website

    Step 2: Sign up for any class you like and show your SUS U-Pass upon arrival

  • No, other people cannot use your card. The services provided by the Student Union Society are personal and non-transferable. This means that your U-Pass is for your personal use only.

    The Student Union Society and BC Transit reserve the right to take disciplinary action and, if necessary, revoke access to the U-PASS program if it is misused. If a UMO account becomes blocked, it cannot be reactivated and the associated U-Pass code will no longer work. To avoid this, students should only access UMO on one device and should not share their U-Pass code with anyone.

  • Based on the Transportation Survey results, the FVX66 is a highly requested service. The UFV SUS team hopes to progress negotiations with BC Transit to have the FVX66 included in the U-Pass program in some capacity.

  • The U-Pass is valid for free access to BC Transit in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission.

  • Access to BC Transit is free for students in cities where local UFV campuses are located (including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission).

  • Access to BC Transit is free for students in cities where local UFV campuses are located (including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission).

  • Translink is a separate entity from BC Transit that only offers services outside the Fraser Valley further west than all UFV campuses. Thus, they cannot transport students to and from our campuses.

  • There are three different eligibility requirements a student can meet to be assessed the dismissal of the U-Pass fees including:

    1. Enrolled ONLY in distance education courses, and not taking on-campus credit courses. This could include online ONLY courses, co-op, international exchanges, or other applicable programs.

    2. Have a demonstrated disability which has been verified by UFV, and as a result cannot use conventional public transit or handyDART.

    3. Have a B.C. Bus Pass issued by the BC Government as verified by UFVSUS

  • Due to the legally binding contractual agreement between BC Transit and UFVSUS, for a course to be considered fully online (and for students to be eligible to opt-out of the U-Pass fees), it must be listed on the UFV timetable with the following instructional method:

    “Instructional Method - Online only. No meeting times”

  • No worries! You can still use your Benefit Code on the Umo App. The app will make sure to use your passes first before any other funds. For example, if you have both a UPass and money loaded on your app, it will always use your UPass first.
