PRESS RELEASE: Further Transit Disruption
Dear Students,
Transit Disruption March 20, 2023:
Following our previous press releases regarding the BC Transit disruption, we have been advised that the CUPE 561 has now served notice to First Transit of a full walkout. This means that there will be no public transit services operation from Monday, March 20th until further notice. BC Transit services include bus services in the Agassiz-Harrison, Central Fraser Valley, Chilliwack, and Hope transit systems. The HandyDART will be operating for emergency services only.
We have written to First Transit to request a speedy resolution, noting the significant impact that the suspension of these services has on our student community. We recognize that this is inconvenient and frustrating for our U-Pass holders, especially with no end date currently known. If you would like to read more on the job action, please visit CUPE 561’s website.
We continue to recommend that you prepare by exploring alternative forms of transport to campus for these days and notify your instructor regarding any missed classes or late arrivals due to the strike.
SUS remains in regular communication with both BC Transit and UFV and will update you on further information as we receive it. We recommend monitoring our social media for any urgent notices.
