PRESS RELEASE: 2025 Year-end Update: FVX 66 Transit, Upcoming Elections & Referendum
FVX Route 66: What's new?
This year, SUS has continued to push for better, more affordable regional transit for UFV students. We met with several elected officials and partners, including Minister for Transportation and Transit Mike Farnworth, Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman, Abbotsford-South Langley MP Sukhman Gill, Parliamentary Secretary for Transit George Anderson, and the Fraser Valley Regional District. These discussions have ensured that student transit issues remain at the forefront.
Some major progress this year includes:
• Over 9,500+ service hours were approved for FVX 66, starting January 2026. This has been the most significant one-time increase in service hours the route has seen. This will help mitigate one of the most critical issues surrounding the bus, namely overcrowding and passenger safety.
• Additionally, UFV students are now eligible for the $85 monthly concession pass, which lowers their monthly costs compared to the $100 adult fare.
SUS also conducted a student survey to understand the student perspective better, and it showed that:
• 31.9% spend $10–$30 per week on FVX 66
• 11.1% purchase the monthly pass • Long commutes, affordability issues, and tardiness to class are affecting students’ mental health, academic success, and financial stability. These findings have been crucial to our lobbying and have improved our case in meetings. With budget pressures across BC, transit funding and affordability remain major concerns, and SUS continues to push for:
• Better financing for inter-regional routes • Affordable options for transit, including a U-pass opt-in option for FVX 66 riders.
• Fair pricing that reflects student affordability SUS is also planning on launching a campaign early in the new year to build support and strengthen our advocacy in upcoming meetings. Stay tuned for more updates in the new year!
